Our Story

Who We Are

For more than four decades, The Plumber, Inc. has built its reputation on dependable plumbing, honest service, and a commitment to the communities of Northwest Indiana. What began as a one-truck operation in 1984 has grown into a family-owned and operated, licensed, bonded, and insured full-service plumbing company serving both residential and commercial customers throughout the region.

The story began with Dave, who completed a five-year apprenticeship with Local Union 433 after graduating from Crown Point High School in 1968. After earning his journeyman's license in 1973 and gaining valuable experience with several plumbing and pipefitting companies, Dave decided to build a business of his own. On March 15, 1984, "Wild Dave the Plumber" officially began serving customers with one truck, a home office, and a simple philosophy: have wrench, will travel.

With the support of his wife, Kathie, the business steadily grew. Kathie managed bookkeeping, advertising, and office responsibilities while raising their two children. As customer demand increased, the company expanded its team, service vehicles, and inventory. By 1990, "Wild Dave the Plumber" became The Plumber, Inc., and in 2000, the company moved into its own four-bay garage and office facility on Indiana Avenue.

Today, that same family-focused spirit continues to guide The Plumber, Inc. We provide comprehensive plumbing solutions, from everyday repairs and drain cleaning to water heater services, sewer work, gas piping, sump pumps, remodeling, new construction, and appliance installations.

The Plumber is the best!! Carl was great at his job. My water heater was in a pantry along with my furnace and he said he really didn't think the water tank he brought would work. Instead of just ended it at that, he said, well let me bring it in and see what I could do. When he removed our old tank it had been leaking and it had been leaking a long time which we had no idea, the wood was rotted under the tank. He not only got the new water tank installed, but he had to do a lot of extra work to make it fit, but he also fixed the area with the rotted wood!! What an amazing man!!! Oh he also took the screen out of my bathroom sink and cleaned it and taught me how to keep my drains clear! You dont find workers like Carl these days, ones that go the extra mile, so nice and thoughtful!! Thanks Carl!! The price was very good also.

Had a damaged sewer pipe underneath the house, another company quoted 4-5 days of work and $19,000.00 of work. Had a family friend recommend getting a second opinion with The Plumber Inc. During their inspection they walked me through each step, explained to me what I did and didn’t really need, and quoted a much more reasonable cost as I did not actually need all of the work the previous company had told me I did. The work itself lasted a day and half, they worked with my schedule so I could be home, and answered any questions I had during the process and about what they were doing and why why were doing it. My experience with this company was very satisfactory because they are knowledgeable, honest, and fair. I will use them for any future plumbing projects an would highly recommend.
